This section is just a small introduction to how I became interested in Buddhism and some of my thoughts. Please feel free to skip this section and use the top navigation or the left side quick list to find far more interesting information on Buddhism :o)

A little About Me

Sometime in late September/early October of 1998 I began really looking into Buddhism. Prior to this I had been looking into many religions to find something that fit. I was raised Roman Catholic but I never really clicked with that and needed to find something that I could relate to and could find harmony with.

I'm not bashing any religions and think they all end up leading you to the same place and in a way go hand and hand but they are not all for everyone and it is our job to look beyond what we were shown to find what really works for us.

As a child we are ushered into religion by our parent's beliefs, sometimes we find this to be a perfect fit, other times we feel we have to keep up tradition even when we have questions. It is hard to step away from what we were taught to find what feels right.

Ironically, after converting to Buddhism I have grown to have a greater appreciation for Catholicism. I want to also say that I don't think that there has to be a choice, I think people of any religion can interject Buddhism philosophy into there life without giving up there beliefs.

There are some very good Buddhist books written by Thich Nhat Hanh that bridge the gap between the two, Living Buddha, Living Christ &
Going Home : Jesus and Buddha as Brothers
are two very good ones.

Everyone's reasons for seeking other forms of spirituality are very personal to them; I'm sharing some of mine because when I started out I felt very alone. I thank god for the internet because I found a wealth of information there, of which I found the Chan path of Buddhism a Chinese form of Zen which I really clicked with right away.

In 1998 I was really lost and looking to find some meaning in my life. I started on that journey because I NEEDED to change my life. I have/had to calm down and find my equal Librium with the universe. I am hoping that Chan will assist me in my journey and that I can change and become the person I really want to be. I was tired of the way I was leading my life and I knew I needed something that could lead me to those changes.

I originally wrote a list of changes I wanted to make, and they hold true to this day. Sometimes I achieve them, other times I do not, but the goal to strive to be better and not give up is one very important part of Buddhism.

I'd like to share some of my list:

There are TONS of great resources on the net about all the different types of Buddhism and I encourage anyone interested to use them to their fullest. I've listed some in my Links section that I found helpful and will continue to add as I find more, but there is a huge resource out there, and you would be selling yourself short if you didn't explore it all.

I want to wish you all good luck in any path you choose and remember the destination isn't important, it is the journey that you take to get there in which we find all of the answers.

I hope you enjoy this section and find it informative. Please feel free to email me with any questions, comments or information I could add to the pages.
