More than just bricks and mortar
Children need their parents to be near them when they are unwell and it is, of course, every parent’s wish to be able to stay close by. The Sick Children’s Trust was founded in 1982 to ensure that when children are seriously ill in hospital they can benefit from the love and care of the whole family.
Michael Crawford O.B.E became president of The Sick Children’s Trust in March 1987 as a result of his genuine empathy for children's issues.
Michael Crawford has given extensive support as President and has proved to be a great friend to The Sick Children's Trust over the years, personally opening some of our houses and encouraging his loyal fans to fundraise for us and to donate generously. The "Michael Crawford International Fan Association" has generated over £200,000 for the charity to date.
Michael says, “It has been a huge honour to play a part in the growth of The Sick Children’s Trust over the years. The energy which the charity injects into new projects is remarkable. They never cease to look for new ways in which they can support families and help keep them together at such vulnerable times. When a child faces a life-threatening illness it is essential to their recovery that they are surrounded by their whole family”.

The Lighthouse Foundation is an Australian, non-denominational, not-for-profit organization, dedicated to empowering young people to take responsibility for their own lives.
Lighthouse provides long-term care and support within a family/community environment, to young people aged 15 - 22, who may otherwise be homeless.
The escalating number of homeless young people indicates there is a youth crisis in the community. It is estimated that there are approximately 26,060 people in Australia aged 12 - 18 who meet the definition of homeless (Chamberlain & Mackenzie, Counting the Homeless 2001). The Lighthouse Foundation Model of Care demonstrates that sectors of society can work co-operatively to achieve a common end - the welfare of our young. Everyone needs a community and requires a sense of belonging in order to achieve a sense of worth and meaning in life.
The Foundation was established in 1991 to support the work of its founder Susan Barton AM, who had been caring for young people in her own home for 16 years. The Lighthouse Model of care has been developed on the knowledge and experiences Susan gained in her extensive care of young people over many years.
